242nd Anniversary Commemoration

of the Second Siege of Augusta

Saturday, 1:00 PM, September 16, 2023

Salvation Army Kroc Center Auditorium,

1833 Broad Street, Augusta, Georgia

Schedule of Events:

1. 9:30 AM – 10:30AM. Our Combined SAR Color Guards will support the Augusta Chapter, NSDAR in conducting Constitution Day activities at St. Paul’s Church, 605 Reynolds Street.

2. 9:30 AM – 12:00 PM. We will host a combined meeting of the Georgia and South Carolina C.A.R. in the Kroc Center Auditorium.

3. 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM. The Augusta Chapter, NSDAR and the local SAR chapters will host a luncheon consisting of BBQ sandwiches, potato salad, and tea provided by Larry Sconyers BBQ in the Kroc Center Lunchroom. There will be cake for dessert. You must sign up for the luncheon in advance and the cost is $16.00 per person.

4. 1:00 PM – 1:45 PM. We will conduct the commemoration ceremony in the comfortable 300-seat Kroc Center Auditorium. The ceremony will consist of bringing greetings, a battle seminar by Historian Steven Rauch and wreath presentations.

5. Following the indoor ceremony, we will go out to the battlefield behind the Kroc Center to watch a mock battle reenactment demonstration to be conducted by our militia and artillery sections firing black powder muskets and six black powder cannons.

SAR, DAR, C.A.R. and other patriotic and lineage societies and chapters are invited to participate in a formal wreath laying ceremony as part of the program. Participants presenting a wreath need to fill out the following form and return it to me.  Please check in with Sue at the registration table by 12:30 PM. Continental, Militia or period attire is encouraged.

This year we are asking that adults please make a $5.00 donation to help us defray expenses of conducting this commemoration event (auditorium and lunchroom rental and cost of the black powder for the musket and cannon firers that cost nearly a $1,000 dollars).
