Aiken City Council proclaimed the week of September 17-23,2021 as Constitution Week for the City during its public meeting held September 13, 2021. Present to support the proclamation were members of the Esther Marion, Henry Middleton, and Trenton NSDAR Chapters, members of the Henry Laurens NSSAR Chapter and the William Stroud Society, Children of the American Revolution. Lindsey Yaun of the William Stroud Society thanked the City Council for the proclamation on behalf of the NSDAR and NSSAR chapters as well as the NSC.A.R. society.
The celebration of the Constitution was started by the Daughters of the American Revolution in 1955 when DAR petitioned Congress to set aside September 17-23 annually to be dedicated for the observance of Constitution Week. President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the resolution into public law on August 2, 1956. This year marks the 234th anniversary of the creation of the Constitution.
