We would like to invite SAR and DAR members to join us for our popular Berkeley Battlefields Tour on Friday, October 29th in Moncks Corner, South Carolina.
Berkeley County, South Carolina is famous for its Revolutionary War connections, not only serving as the setting for 32 of the war’s over 200 battle sites in South Carolina, but also two prominent military leaders: General Francis Marion and General William Moultrie. Notorious for his “Swamp Fox” nickname, Marion and his militia were known for hiding in area swamps and launching bloody, surprise attacks on the British Redcoats.
Join us as we explore the Patriots victories and defeats on Berkeley County battlefields.
Tour will start at Lord Berkeley Conservation Trust, 136 E. Railroad Avenue, Moncks Corner, SC 29461. Cars will caravan to each location. Stops include Fort Fair Lawn, Mepkin, Biggin Church, Wadboo and Quinby. Fort Fair Lawn will soon be a stop on the Liberty Trail! The tour is led by David Reuwer with the South Carolina Battleground Trust. Breakfast & lunch are included.
Additionally, we will host a History Happy Hour at the Hilton Garden Inn on Thursday evening, October 28th, from 7:30PM – 8:30PM. David Reuwer will join us for a fun hour of history and networking. We will also have some special artifacts found at Fort Fair Lawn to share with you.
The Hilton Garden Inn has agreed to offer a discounted rate for Thursday and Friday nights. Reservations can be made at: https://group.hiltongardeninn.com/gjk5rd.
Please share with your chapters and if you have any questions, please reach out! We look forward to seeing you soon!
