A lecture for the Simpsonville Revolutionary War Museum – “The Spartan Regiments”
July 9, 7:00 pm. Chamber of Commerce Offices, 105 W. Curtis St., Simpsonville
The Spartan Regiments, in conjunction with the Little River (present day Laurens County) Regiment, have perhaps the most distinguished records of any regiments that fought in the war. With over 49 separate engagements, there are no other regiments that can match that accomplishment. Most Revolutionary regiments shrunk over the course of the war. The Spartan Regiments increased their numbers, finding it necessary to divide into the 1st Spartan Regiment, the 2nd Spartan Regiment and Roebuck’s Battalion of the Spartan Regiment. Among other distinguished achievements, these Regiments and the Little River Regiment were the front line at Cowpens and performed heroically.
