Wreaths Across America Proclamation

13Dec
My fellow Compatriots,

On December 18, 2021, Wreaths Across America will continue its annual mission to REMEMBER, HONOR, and TEACH about our fallen veterans. The mission is to honor all of America’s fallen veterans, from those who served during the American Revolution to those who participated in America’s most recent wars and conflicts. I am honored to issue the below proclamation encouraging National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution State Societies, Chapters, and Compatriots to join with Wreaths Across America, Daughters of the American Revolution, The National Society of the Children of the American Revolution, and other community, patriotic, and veterans’ organization to honor America’s veterans with wreath-layings and other commemorative programs.

As we approach the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution (April 19, 2025-November 25, 2033), it is fitting that we should pause to remember, honor, and teach about the United States’ first veterans–the individuals who struggled for over eight years to ensure that the independence declared from Philadelphia on July 4, 1776, would be a lasting independence. We should remember that our first veterans: caused two British armies to surrender in the fields outside of Saratoga and Yorktown; experienced victories at places such as Lexington, Concord, Trenton, Princeton, Vincennes, Cowpens, and Kings Mountain; gave as good as they got at Bunker Hill, Monmouth Courthouse and Guilford Courthouse; suffered many reversals and defeats, including Quebec, Long Island, Forts Washington & Lee, Brandywine, Germantown, Savannah, Charlestown, and Camden; and braved harsh conditions on the Delaware River (Washington Crossing) and at Valley Forge and Morristown.

I look forward to participating in the Wreaths Across America commemoration at Valley Forge National Historical Park with the Society of the Descendants of Washington’s Army at Valley Forge, along with many fellow members of the SAR, DAR, and C.A.R. I hope each of you will find time to participate in Wreaths Across America this year as you are able.

Patriotically,
Davis Lee Wright,
President General, 2021-2022
